Bastille recall a memorable Brits moment with Pulp, Michael Jackson cover

Bastille have decided to remember one of the Brit Awards’ more memorable moments by bringing together Michael Jackson‘s ‘Earth Song‘ and Pulp‘s ‘Common People‘ for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge series.

If you so wish, it’s streaming on YouTube and can be heard below.

Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker famously took umbrage with Michael Jackson’s, shall we say, rather self-aggrandising live performance of ‘Earth Song’ at the 1996 Brits, and chose to emphatically show the world his thoughts on events by invading the stage and pointing out his skinny, indie arse for all and sundry. For his troubles, he was carted off and spent the night at Her Majesty’s Pleasure.

As it happened, 1996 proved to be the hedonistic height of Britpop as the era’s leading lights indulged in the kind of antics which will no doubt seem a world away when this year’s bash is held on February 19th.

Bastille are up for no less than four awards that night, those being British Breakthrough, British Album, British Group and British Single.
