Roger Daltrey has revealed the first acts for this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust series of concerts as he returns to the helm after a year’s break.
Daltrey handed over control to Noel Gallagher for 2013 as he fulfilled live duties with The Who, but he is back for 2014 and already has The Cure and Suede signed up.
“This is our 14th year at the Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust and I’m very happy to be back after handing the reins to Noel Gallagher for a year,” Daltrey says in a statement. “The money raised is invaluable in helping young people with cancer, and in return for the public’s hard earned cash we put on some very special shows.”
The Cure will perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London on March 29th, while Suede are in town celebrating the 20th anniversary of ‘Dog Man Star’ on the 30th. Ed Sheeran, Paolo Nutini and OneRepublic are the other early musical arrivals, while omnipresent comedians Jason Manford, John Bishop and Micky Flanagan are among those taking part in the comedy night on March 25th.
“Over the years we’ve had so many memorable moments,” Daltrey remembers. “These include Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn appearing together for the first time, Paul Weller, Kelly Jones and Eddie Vedder flying halfway round the world to sing one song, Matt Bellamy playing the Hall’s famous pipe organ and so many more.”
