The 1975‘s single ‘Chocolate‘, which blazed a trail for their debut album to fly straight in at number one on the UK charts, has been voted as the best track to feature on BBC Radio 1’s playlist during the past five years by listeners of the station.

20 songs from each of the previous five years were presented to the listeners, with DJ Greg James announcing The 1975 as their favourite yesterday evening (September 27th). Another genuine breakthrough single of this year, Bastille‘s ‘Pompeii‘ came in second, with tracks by Fall Out Boy, Ellie Goulding and Biffy Clyro completing the Top 5.

“Radio 1 has played a lot of amazing music over the last five years and we wanted to climax our Even More Music Month with a rundown of our audience’s most loved songs,” head of music for BBC Radio 1 George Ergatoudis has remarked.

“The voting has been going on all month and artists have been rallying their fan bases – it has been fascinating seeing the votes come in.”
