US comedian Stephen Colbert has claimed Daft Punk were banned from performing on his TV show The Colbert Report last night (August 6th) by MTV as they are being lined up for a ‘surprise’ appearance at the network’s Video Music Awards.
Colbert must have thought he had secured a significant coup in booking the French electronic duo on his late night show for what would have been a very rare TV performance. However, apparently just hours before air-time Colbert was informed they wouldn’t be able to fulfill their duties, so he instead danced along to the monster hit ‘Get Lucky‘ with a host of famous faces.
“Here’s the story: it’s a true story,” Colbert explained to his audience. “We booked click and clack over here about a month ago. This network is owned by Viacom, which is also the owner of MTV. Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t tell anyone, because fun fact: no one told me until two hours ago.”
