A host of stars from the music world were in New York last night (December 12th) to take part in a benefit concert organised to aid the victims of the Sandy hurricane and superstorm which affected many parts of the US east coast and beyond.
Bruce Springsteen opened the show at Madison Square Garden and told the crowd ‘it was painful’ to see the Jersey Shore being affected as it has ‘always been a special place’. The Boss closed his mini-set by introducing Jon Bon Jovi for a performance of ‘Born To Run‘.
Roger Waters, currently touring his re-imagined version of Pink Floyd‘s ‘The Wall‘, played a handful of tracks from that album as well as the ‘Dark Side Of The Moon‘ classic ‘Money‘.
Later, The Rolling Stones apparently had their set cut short, but were able to squeeze in ‘Jumpin Jack Flash‘. Paul McCartney closed out the evening’s entertainment, initially playing a couple of Beatles and solo tracks before the so-called ‘Nirvana reunion’ began when former bandmates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic joined Sir Paul onstage for a run-through of an original song.
Viewers in the UK will be able to watch the concert in its entirety when Sky Arts airs the first part of its coverage tonight from 10pm.
