Mumford & Sons‘ second album ‘Babel‘ has become the fastest selling in the UK so far this year following its release last week.

The record completed the first part of a widely expected trans-Atlantic chart double by going to number one in the UK yesterday (September 30th), and has done so by shifting 159,000 copies during its first week according to the Official Charts Company.

‘Babel’ hands the London band their first UK chart-topper after debut ‘Sigh No More‘ peaked at #2 during its long stay on the Album rundown, and has outstripped the previous fastest seller of 2012 in Britain – Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Born To Die‘ – by around 40,000 units.

“If their goal is to attract a bigger audience with ‘Babel’ then it will certainly be met and most likely exceeded, especially with their growing success in the US, but overall it feels like an album solely for their loyal fan base,” Live4ever said in our review of the album.

“Songs that were requested by the audience, rehearsed in front of the audience, moulded live in front of the audience and then recorded specifically for that audience.”
