London folksters Dry The River will begin recording a new album before the year is out, the band have told BBC Newsbeat.

Speaking at last weekend’s Reading Festival, drummer Jon Warren revealed they plan on entering the studio again in December. “In December we’ll go into the studio to start writing new stuff,” he said.

“We’re really excited to start working on something new,” added Scott Miller. “The songs on the first album have been with us for two to three years now. We’re keeping it under wraps at the moment but there’s some new stuff cooking.”

Dry The River enjoyed almost universal critical acclaim with the release of their debut album ‘Shallow Bed‘ in March. The record is now one of the bookies favourites to land a Mercury Music Prize nomination when this year’s list is announced shortly.

In a change from the previous schedule, the shortlist will be unveiled next month, with the winner being confirmed in November. Alt-J, Django Django, Richard Hawley and The Maccabees are also among the favourites for the coveted award this year.
