Rock icon Lou Reed is the ‘most overrated lyricist of all time’ according to a new list drawn up by Flavorwire.
Reed was placed top ahead of Interpol‘s Paul Banks and Serj Tankian of New Order, with the reason stated being:
“Reed has been responsible for a surprising number of pretty awful lyrics. When he’s on form, he’s up with the very, very best. But we think he’s dropped enough stinkers over the years to not entirely merit his reputation as a consistently great lyricist.”
British stars Bernard Sumner and Matt Bellamy were placed at #4 and #5 respectively, with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes named at number six.
Bob Dylan, widely recognised as one of the greatest rock lyricist of all time, was named at #10.
