Muse bass player Chris Wolstenholme has revealed he is to take up the main songwriting duties for the band while frontman Matt Bellamy takes a break from music to spend time with partner Kate Hudson, who is expecting the couple’s first child in July.
Traditionally, Bellamy has been the creative driving force behind Muse, whose focus on bombastic anthems and ambitious live productions has helped lift the trio to their current status as one of the world’s premier rock acts.
For the time being though, Wolstenholme has said the duty of maintaining those high standards is now resting on his own shoulders, and he’s slightly apprehensive at the prospect of going it alone.
“Matt’s raised the bar quite high in terms of songwriting,” he told The Sun newspaper. “I’m a bit nervous because I don’t want to write a song and it be responsible for the demise of the band.”
Muse are due to headline this year’s Reading/Leeds festival, where they plan to perform 2001 album ‘Origin Of Symmetry‘ in its entirety.
According to Chris, this is actually “bollocks”. Just saying
