R.E.M guitarist Peter Buck has said the band have no concrete plans to tour their new album, which was released in the UK yesterday (March 7th).

Buck was speaking to Beatweek magazine as ‘Collapse Into Now‘ hit the shelves, and outlined his belief that touring no linger yields an increase in album sales, and therefore the band may skip a prolonged period out on the road.

“I’m not really sure that touring sells records,” he said. “What sells records anymore? It seems like less and less people are buying albums, so do what you want.”

“We’ll just see what happens. But it does seem like we’ve toured a lot in the last eight or ten years. To some degree it felt like we’d just been doing kind of the same thing we did last time. You just don’t really want to repeat yourself in that way.”

After its release in the UK yesterday, ‘Collapse Into Now‘ is due for issue in the US today.
