Seventies legends The Faces returned to the stage last night, with Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall taking the place of their charismatic former frontman Rod Stewart.
The re-formed band, which now also consists of Sex Pistols bass player Glen Matlock alongside Ronnie Wood, Kenney Jones and Ian McLagan, made their bow at the British Music Experience as a warm-up for their upcoming headline show at The Vintage at Goodwood.
The show at the British Music Experience marked the first performance by the members under the banner of The Faces since 1975. At the time of the announcement of their decision to reunite, drummer Kenney Jones said: “When we realised at the PRS Awards we hadn’t played a live gig since 1975 we just couldn’t believe it! The timing is just right, we can feel the excitement and we cannot wait to be back on stage playing to a live audience again. Expect the classics and also some incredible guests when we get back on the road, it’s going to be lots of fun.”
Despite initial reservations from fans, the return has received a positive response from critics, with The Telegraph’s Andrew Perry reporting of an ‘intriguing chemistry’, while Rick Pearson, writing for the London Evening Standard, said: “If this was a musical audition, The Faces (and Hucknall) passed with flying colours.”
Whats up with Rod ?? is he to good to join his old band ?? he hasnt had anything near good since the late 70’s !!! when he sold out and became a commercial blow hard.. maybe he’ll change his mind and do the right thing…Jim
