Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has told digital station BBC 6Music the follow-up to their hugely successful fourth studio album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid‘ is close to completion, and also disclosed the record’s working title.
Garvey told the station the album is currently being recorded under the title ‘Lippy Kids‘, and also spoke through the themes which are comprising their new material. “The working title of the album at the moment is ‘Lippy Kids‘,” he said. “It’s quite a nostalgic thing. I’ve got a thing about growing up.
Not needing to! But a certain period of your life when – well kids are called ‘hoodies’ these days aren’t they when they reach their teens. I remember it being an amazing important time, so I’ve written a lot about that.”
Garvey also told of the conflicting moods the band members are experiencing during the sessions, but said at the moment they are ‘buzzing’. “We’re all buzzing off it,” he enthused. “You have periods of nervousness and then you have periods of elation. And we’re all buzzing off it at the minute.”
‘The Seldom Seen Kid‘ was released in 2008 to huge critical acclaim. It went on to win the Mercury Music Prize that year, and features the hit singles ‘Grounds For Divorce‘ and ‘One Day Like This‘.
