More than a dozen artists such as Elton John, James Taylor and Dave Matthews performed 20 of Neil Young’s most well-known songs in honour of his philanthropic work at this year’s muisc industry charity event Musiccares.
The Canadian legend, who was was in the attendance for the performances, was honored with the title of’ MusiCares Person of the Year’, which celebrates an artist’s philanthropy each year as it raises funds for the music industry charity that provides financial, medical and personal assistance to artists in need.
Young has worked with the Bridge School Concerts, which raise money to provide services for kids with severe speech and physical impairments and is also a driving force at the Farm Aid events.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers made their first public performance with their new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer at award night. Klinghoffer started working with the band following John Frusciante’s departure in the fall. The official announcement has yet to be posted by the band.
