Happy Mondays are the latest act to be announced for this year’s Versus Cancer charity concert in Manchester. Snow Patrol, Tim Booth, Andy Rourke (The Smiths) and Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order) are already on the bill for the hugecharity gig at the MEN Arena in Manchester on December 12.
The line up also includes Jim Glennie and Larry Gott of Manchester band James. Money raised will go towards helping cancer patients in the region.
Happy Mondays haven’t played their home town Arena since their greatest hits set at Versus Cancer in February 2008. “Versus Cancer is a great charity and we’re really pleased to be part of it once again,” say the band. “We’ve been involved pretty much every year and it’s a cause we love. Everyone’s getting together behind the scenes and working on the sets and collaborations to make sure the night is one to remember, and we can’t wait to get on stage.”
The Smiths’s Rourke, who is also the founder of the Versus Cancer initiative, says, “We’ve been in touch with the band over the last few years and we’re over the moon that they’ve come on board this year. We’ve got more acts to be announced over the next couple of weeks from bands and musicians to world class DJs and comedians, so watch this space.”
Tickets are on sale now – see www.versuscancer.org for full details.
