Bad Lieutenant, the new project by New Order’s Bernard Sumner, have announced details of the band’s new album. Called ‘Never Cry Another Tear’ it will be released on October 5th.

As well as Sumner, the new group also consists of Phil Cunningham, who has played with New Order, and Jake Evans, who will be the band’s lead singer. The album was recorded in Manchester, and features Blur bassist Alex James and New Order drummer Stephen Morris amongst others.

Speaking about the new record, Sumner said “We’ve worked hard on it and I’m proud of it. It’s also important because it gives people the chance to hear a gifted new singer and guitar player (Evans) who I think’s really talented.” The album will be preceeded by a new single, ‘Sink Or Swim‘, which will be released on September 21st.

New Order were formed out of the ashes of Joy Division, who disbanded after the untimely death of frontman Ian Curtis. The band went on to enjoy big success in the 1980s, releasing seminal anthem ‘Blue Monday’ on Factory Records in 1983. In 2001, the band released album ‘Get Ready’, their first since 1993, which was then followed in 2005 by ‘Waiting For The Sirens Call‘.

A year later, bass player Peter Hook began to hint that the band had split, eventually confirming his departure in 2007. In response, Sumner and drummer Stephen Morris released a statement indicating New Order would carry on without him. However the Bad Lieutenant project is the first new material the pair have been invoved with together since Hook left the band, with Morris also set to play with the band on tour.
