The National have missed out on a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Song after the original long-list of 39 was cut down to two today.
US alternative types The National are amongst the acts to have made the shortlist for the 2012 Academy award for Best Original Song.
The National frontman Matt Berninger has said the songs currently being worked on by his bandmate Aaron Dessner are “some of the best things he’s ever written”.
Berninger revealed Dessner’s new life as a father has been influencing his writing, which is “less academic and cerebral” than previous efforts.
The National have announced a series of world-wide tour dates for this coming November and December, which will take in shows in Asia, Australia and North America.
The band, who released ‘High Violet‘ last year, will play with groups including The Walkmen and Local Natives during the tour. The first date in November will come at the Esplanade Concert Hall, Singapore, on the 4th, with the band hitting Australia for five gigs, beginning at the Harvest Festival in Melbourne on November 12th.
The annual arrival of the Reading / Leeds Festival always signals the beginning of the end for another hectic season of UK summer festivals, and it usually helps each year to go out with a bang, and with a bill that packs in homecoming heroes, some of the US’ finest, and a wide selection of bright young things, this year looks like being no different.
So, after wading through the many stages and many, many artists ready to descend on the twin sites in just over a week’s time, the Live4ever Ezine has picked out ten acts we feel you should not be missing over the course of the weekend – might take some manic dashing to fit them all in though…
(Stages and dates represent the Leeds leg of the festivals)
This year’s Reading/Leeds festivals are set for a special double-headlining treat as The Strokes and Pulp will alternate billings over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend.
The creator of TV show Glee has launched a stinging attack on Kings Of Leon after the band turned down a request to have their hit ‘Use Somebody‘ used on the programme.
The full list of nominations for the 2011 Brit Awards has been announced today, with Mumford & Sons and The xx carrying the rock torch with three nominations each, while Arcade Fire and Kings Of Leon receive nods in two categories.
