Zane Lowe ended his final BBC Radio 1 show yesterday evening (March 5th) with Queens Of The Stone Age‘s ‘A Song For The Dead‘.

“This is the only one I’ve chosen tonight,” Lowe said. “Now, you could get emotional, or you could just check it out. One band has been a constant for me throughout this whole journey.”

“Given me more one-liners that I’ve passed off as my own, given me more great music than I could possibly hope to digest in a lifetime and they’ve been kind to me too. This is my last song, Queens Of The Stone Age, ‘A Song For The Dead’. You can’t even hear it.”

Lowe’s evening show has been one of the last bastions for emerging bands on prime time Radio 1, many of whom have been paying tribute to the DJ. “He’ll be sorely missed, I’ve never met anyone more enthusiastic,” Kasabian‘s Serge Pizzorno told the BBC.

“He cares and he knows more about tunes and music and especially about new artists than anyone.”
