Muse have debuted their new track ‘Dead Inside’ which, according to Matt Bellamy, neatly introduces the running narrative of the upcoming ‘Drones‘ album.

“This is where the story of the album begins, where the protagonist loses hope and becomes ‘Dead Inside’, therefore vulnerable to the dark forces introduced in ‘Psycho’ and which ensue over the next few songs on the album, before eventually defecting, revolting and overcoming these dark forces later in the story,” he’s said.

The track displays a return to the band’s earlier, heavier sound when compared to 2012’s ‘The 2nd Law‘ and should fit in well at Donington Park when Muse headline the Download Festival in June beside Slipknot and Kiss.

A lyric video is below, and is shared ahead of the album’s release on June 8th.

‘Drones’ tracklist:

‘Dead Inside’
‘[Drill Sergeant]’
‘Psycho’
‘Mercy’
‘Reapers’
‘The Handler’
‘[JFK]’
‘Defector’
‘Revolt’
‘Aftermath’
‘The Globalist’
‘Drones’
