The Maccabees will continue to dust off their live cobwebs with a show in Sheffield next month.

The band have been toiling away on a new album for some time now, but did start to make a return to the live scene towards the end of last year supporting Kasabian on a UK arena tour, and continued in December with a visit to the Norwich Arts Centre in celebration of its crowning as ‘Britain’s Best Small Venue’ by NME.

Now, they’ve been on Twitter to announce a gig at the Sheffield Leadmill on February 21st. It’s described as a ‘warm-up show’, presumably for a more comprehensive tour which is in the works.

Speaking to NME before Christmas, The Maccabees finally declared their follow-up to 2012’s excellent ‘Given To The Wild‘ to be close to completion – just about 18 months after they first started.

“It feels more self-assured,” frontman Orlando Weeks said. “I feel confident in it – I feel confident singing it. I feel like it’s got a really nice mix of all of our different inputs, and that’s the thing that takes us longest to get our heads around, trying to accommodate all of those different tastes.”
