Patrick Carney’s injury forces The Black Keys to cancel UK arena tour

The shoulder injury suffered by Patrick Carney earlier this month has forced The Black Keys to shelve their UK arena tour.

It was TMZ who first reported at the start of this month that the drummer had been ‘swept up by a giant, powerful wave, where he was shunned against the bottom of the ocean floor’ while swimming, after which Carney was on Instagram declaring: “Tune into my new lifetime movie. ‘Dislocated shoulder’ airing right now.”

There was no immediate suggestion that the somewhat unusual accident might put the UK tour in jeopardy, but a statement released today has confirmed it has got in the way after all.

“We are very sorry to have to cancel our upcoming performances through March 10,” the statement reads. “Patrick needs time to heal. We thank all of our fans for their support and we’re looking forward to getting back on the road.”

The affected shows are at the Manchester Phones 4u Arena, the Birmingham LG Arena, Glasgow’s SSE Hydro, The O2 in London and finally the Leeds First Direct Arena. They will not be re-arranged and tickets can therefore be refunded at the point of purchase.
