There’s an unlikely partnership brewing in New York City as Fat White Family record their second album.

The band are being co-produced by Sean Lennon after a friendship was sparked during last year’s South By Southwest Festival – initially when bass player Joe Pancucci tried to hit it off with Lennon’s girlfriend.

“She’s in his band and she’s stunning, so we were all staring at her going, ‘Oh my god, who’s that girl?’,” Saul Adamczewski has told NME. “Joe kept trying to chat her up; he kept approaching her, and she kept moving away. It was our old drummer who approached Sean, kissing his arse, basically, so they hit it off and he took us all out for dinner. He’s a cool bloke. A strange bloke.”

Naturally, the collaboration means Fat White Family have managed to lay their hands on some old equipment once used by John Lennon – possibly even the mellotron from ‘Strawberry Fields Forever‘.

“Almost everything we pick up, Sean’ll be like, ‘Oh that was my dad’s’,” Adamczewski continued. “We’ve been using this old mellotron of his – I don’t know if it’s the one on ‘Strawberry Fields’, but for the sake of the story, let’s just say it is.”
