The Libertines won the Headline Performance Of The Year prize at yesterday’s (December 1st) UK Festival Awards ceremony thanks to their incident packed return at London’s Hyde Park for British Summer Time last July.
The band came out ahead of other high profile headline gigs, such as Arctic Monkeys at Reading/Leeds and Metallica at Glastonbury, but Glastonbury itself did triumph in the Best Major Festival category.
“Another outstanding summer has made this year’s voting and judging a hugely exciting but also challenging task,” awards director Steve Jenner remarked. “Not that this put off the festival going public; we’ve seen a 25% rise in votes with over 720,000 cast this year.”
