The glorious return of The Libertines this year has moved a stage further with the news that the band have signed to Virgin EMI in anticipation of the release of a new album in 2015.

“I don’t know what to say, I’m so happy,” Pete Doherty has said of signing the new deal. “It was a beautiful day.” Carl Barât added: “After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, I couldn’t be more excited.”

What first appeared to be a carbon copy of the band’s live comeback in 2010 has grown into so much more since they headlined the British Summer Time Festival last July. That gig in the end sparked a full blown European tour, and was also swiftly informed by Doherty and Barat’s clear intention to write and record new material.

Those plans have clearly gone well, and the new deal now paves the way for the first Libertines studio album in more than ten years.
