Robert Plant is currently ahead of Sam Smith and could land the UK’s number one album when the latest chart is confirmed this Sunday (September 14th).

Sam Smith’s ‘In The Lonely Hour‘ returned to the top last week at the expense of Royal Blood, but Plant’s new solo album ‘lullaby and…The Ceaseless Roar‘ has edged ahead according to the official midweek chart update.

A busy week for new entries is also likely to see Top 40 places for Ryan Adams, Interpol, The Kooks, Smokey Robinson and Death From Above 1979 among others.

“Being lost in the darkness here is the whole experience. Plant’s greatest ability, as always, is to use light and shade, and it’s the balance on the album that is perfect,” Live4ever’s ‘lullaby…’ review reads. “Moments like ‘Turn It Up‘, a track which sounds almost like a veiled threat, are aligned with the sense of mystery and disquiet found on ‘Up On Hollow Hill‘, they manage to bring that feeling of depraved cabaret found on so many Tom Waits albums.”
