Bernard Sumner is promising ‘a vivid and illuminating account’ of his life at the eye of the musical storm which swept through Manchester during the late seventies and eighties when his autobiography is published in September.

Chapter and Verse (New Order, Joy Division and Me) will document Sumner’s experiences when growing up in Salford, and is to also look at the huge impact of his time with Factory Records when Joy Division, New Order and the Hacienda nightclub helped to create a genunie cultural phenomenon.

“Sometimes moving, often hilarious and occasionally completely out of control, this is a tale populated by some of the most colourful and creative characters in music history,” a press release states.

Sumner was Joy Division’s guitarist and took centre stage when the band reemerged as New Order following Ian Curtis‘ tragic suicide in 1980.

The memoir is being released by Transworld on September 25th.
