Kasabian: Leicester Victoria Park gig will be ‘our moment’

Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno believes the band’s homecoming gig at Leicester’s Victoria Park later this month will prove to be ‘their moment’.

“The reason we chose that location is that it’s the centre of the town,” Pizzorno has told the BBC.

“It’s not on the outskirts in a farm, or anything. The train station is two minutes’ walk, and it sits on the top of a hill where you can pretty much see all of Leicester. It’s an unbelievable venue.”

“The audience will see people from just down the road who created all this from nothing. That’s why that gig is so important, for our city to realise that anything is possible. To go onstage and celebrate 10 years of our band, with our best record yet, is great. That’s going to be our moment, I think.”

Just over a week later Kasabian will be on the Pyramid Stage closing this year’s Glastonbury Festival, which is also being headlined by Arcade Fire and Metallica. Pizzorno had some confident words for anyone who might not be expecting too much that weekend.

“When we step out on that stage, with all we know and everything we’ve learned, we have an advantage,” he said. “If you’re not expecting much, wait until you see what’s about to happen to you.”
