John Cooper Clarke will make a guest appearance on the new Inspiral Carpets album which is self-titled and due in September.

The poet – who seems to have made a sudden but very welcome return recently and last year made a brief contribution to Arctic Monkeys‘ LP ‘AM‘ – has provided a spoken word vocal on the Inspirals’ new track ‘Let You Down‘.

“He was our only choice really,” Clint Boon says. “When we started discussing getting a guest on ‘Let You Down’ he immediately accepted our invitation. He recorded his vocal in one take using lyrics he’d written especially for the track. We feel the result is monumental and, without doubt, one of our finest moments.”

“The track has this long instrumental, repetitive riff with sparse lyrics which draw heavily on Northern imagery,” Craig Gill adds. “This immediately made us think John would be ideal person to collaborate with on this song.”
