The backlash has started already…Sam Smith hasn’t been placed at number one on an industry hype list, instead The Vamps have come out on top in the MTV Brand New rundown.
“We’re very lucky and we feel very humbled and honoured to win such an awesome competition we’ve been growing up with,” Tristan of The Vamps says, while Bradley adds:
“Yeah a big thank you to all our fans who voted for us, you’re all amazing – it’s a bit weird winning it when we’ve all grown up and seen the artists who have won it so thank you very much!”
As well as Sam Smith, the group also finish ahead of Ella Eyre, Joel Compass, Royal Blood, Banks, Elyar Fox, George Ezra, Kwabs and Marie Naffah.
“Huge congratulations to The Vamps who have already established a strong connection with the MTV audience,” Paul Hourican, Head of Talent and Music at MTV Networks UK & Ireland comments. “We’re absolutely thrilled for the guys who have a huge 2014 ahead of them.”
Sam Smith has already been named as the Brits Critics’ Choice recipient for 2014, while he finished at number on the BBC Sound Of… poll last month.
