Arctic Monkeys have agreed to open the 2014 Brit Awards ceremony, which takes place at the O2 in London on February 19th.

The Sheffield band are likely to receive nominations in the British Group and British Album categories after the success of ‘AM‘, and have been confirmed as one of the first live performers for next year, as has popstar Katy Perry.

“We are extremely ambitious for the 2014 show, showcasing global superstars and celebrating the incredible success of British music,” Brit Awards chairman Christian Tattersfield insists. “We are going to pull out all the stops to make this the biggest and most exciting Brits ever.”

The 2014 bash is set to be the last hosted by actor James Corden, who will become the longest serving host when he reprises the role in February. Corden’s tenure will be best remembered for his cutting short of Adele‘s acceptance speech in 2012 after the singer had claimed the British Album gong for ‘21‘.

“I really love the Brits,” Corden remarks. “I’m such a fan. I’ll miss not doing it after this one but fully intend to enjoy every second of Brits 2014.”
