Lars Ulrich hopes for Metallica headline spot at Glastonbury

Lars Ulrich is hoping Metallica will be handed the opportunity to headline Glastonbury in the future, but admits the chances of his band topping the Pyramid Stage are dwindling as each year passes.

“Every year there’s probably less chance of us doing it than the previous year, but it just looks like it would be a fun night out,” Ulrich tells MTV. “We’ve been fortunate enough to play every other festival on this planet numerous times, so Glastonbury is the only one that’s eluding us.”

Michael Eavis is chasing acts who have never played Worthy Farm before to headline the event in 2014 but Metallica are not thought to be high up on his wishlist, with Fleetwood Mac currently seen as near certainties and Depeche Mode, The Stone Roses and Prince also rumoured.

“There’s such a vibe and it’s maybe the most quintessentially English festival,” Ulrich continues. “Everybody who goes there loves it and obviously Michael doesn’t need our help – I completely appreciate and respect that – but if he ever wants to get hold of us we’re in the Yellow Pages and ready to go!”
