The first childhood home of John Lennon, situated on Newcastle Road in the Penny Lane area of Liverpool, has sold for £480,000 at auction.
The property went up for sale at the Cavern Club, and was eventually bought by an anonymous American who is described as being a big fan of The Beatles.
“I’ll be sad to leave John Lennon’s first home but I am retired now and would really like a property with a bigger garden,” the previous owner told the Liverpool Echo. “I have made sure original features have been preserved so that they reflect the 1960s period, when the Beatles wowed the whole world with their rock and roll music.”
Lennon lived on Newcastle Road with his mother until the age of five, after which he moved to 251 Menlove Avenue – better known to us all as Mendips – to live with his Aunt Mimi.
Despite initial apathy from the Nationa Trust, Mendips was declared a Grade II listed building and opened to the public in 2003.
Never knew there was such a house. Could be interesting to see it with original features which reflect 1960s.. I just wonder if the price was a ‘good value’..
