Sir Mick Jagger to co-produce new Elvis Presley biopic

mickjaggerRolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger has been hired to produce a new Elvis Presley biopic, reports Variety.

Entitled Last Train To Memphis, the Presley film is being directed by Last King Of Scotland and State Of Play director Kevin Macdonald, and is based on Peter Guralnick’s 1995 biography of the same name.

Jagger has agreed to co-produce through his Jagger Films company along side Victoria Pearman, to go with a similar movie project which will focus on the life and times of the late soul icon James Brown.

Critic and author Peter Guralnick is a prolific writer of American musical history, and told the story of Elvis’ early days and rise to fame with his 1995 work. His in-depth bio serial was completed in 1999 with the release of Careless Love, which went on to examine Presley’s declining health and career fortunes in the years before the legend’s untimely death at the age of 42 in 1977.
