The Vaccines hope to continue their move away from the straightforward guitar-led pop of their two studio albums when they come to record a third LP ‘in the next eight or nine months’, according to frontman Justin Young.

With the band’s recent ‘Melody Calling‘ EP displaying a slight shift in direction when compared to the 2011 full length debut ‘What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?‘ and its follow-up ‘The Vaccines Come Of Age‘, Young has told Triple J their move away from ‘three-chord pop punk’ is likely to be a permanent one.

“I think we just sort of felt like we didn’t want to be churning out the same stuff album after album,” he explained. “We tried to take a turn on the second record, but it was perhaps slightly premature. I like surprises – not everyone does – but we felt like the EP was a good way to bridge the gap.”
