Jack White has initiated a counter-motion against Karen Elson after news broke this week that his former wife has taken out a restraining order on him, reports Rolling Stone.
Despite the couple appearing to separate on good terms back in 2011, it emerged Elson has cited dispute over custody of their two children as the reason for a further breakdown in their relationship, with the restraining order quoted as reading:
“Wife fears for her and the children’s safety as a result of this harassment. This pattern of husband’s bullying wife into submission was a contributing factor in the demise of their marriage.”
It now appears White has started his own action, which strongly disputes Elson’s version of events and states that he ‘does not want to be portrayed as something he is not’. A motion that White should undertake a psychiatric examination has also been described as ‘inflammatory, disingenuous, fraudulent and retaliatory’.
“The reason for filing this response is that Mr. White does not want to be portrayed as something he is not, violent toward his wife and children,” the counter-motion reads.
”One who was truly fearful of another would not leave their children alone with that person for 10 days,” it continues. “The truth of the matter is that Ms. Elson is not fearful for herself or the parties’ minor children.”
Nashville’s The City Paper claims the pair will meet in court to sort out their differences on August 29th.
