MGMT have unveiled the artwork for their third, self-titled album, which is due for release in September.
After initially being showcased in the form of an animated gif, the completed sleeve was quickly premiered today (July 22nd) and can be seen on the left of this article.
The duo of Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden follow-up 2010′s ‘Congratulations‘ on September 16th after recording sessions at Dave Fridmann’s Tarbox Road Studios in Buffalo, New York.
Earlier this year, Goldwasser described their new material as shaping up to be ‘even weirder’ than its predecessor. “We’re not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it,” Goldwasser said, while VanWyngarden added their record label has, “No illusion on their part that we’re going to turn into a Top 40 band. That’s kind of comforting.”
