Scott Weiland counter-suing Stone Temple Pilots

Scott Weiland is now counter-suing Stone Temple Pilots after his former band ignited their own legal proceedings last month.

According to reports, Weiland has responded to Stone Temple Pilots’ desire to prevent him from using their name and songs in the future by claiming they had no legal right to remove him from the band’s line-up in the first place.

Stone Temple Pilots have apparently cited an alleged agreement made in 1996 which is said to forbid any former member from taking advantage of their name and back catalogue, and in addition have blamed ‘addiction and tardiness’ for his departure earlier this year as well as claiming Weiland has ‘gone out of his way’ to prevent a new Stone Temple Pilots single entitled ‘Out Of Time‘ from garnering significant radio airplay.

Weiland was clearly frustrated when news of his removal from the band was broken, remarking at the time that he, “Learned of my supposed ‘termination’ from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press.”

“Not sure how I can be ‘terminated’ from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out.”
