The Manic Street Preachers invited British & Irish Lions star Jamie Roberts onstage yesterday during their gig in Melbourne.
The Manics have arranged a short tour of Australia in conjunction with the Lions’ tour of the country, and welcomed the centre, who has missed games because of injury, to perform with them for what Roberts has described as ‘one of the best experiences he’s ever had’.
“As massive rugby fans the chance to visit one of our favourite countries, play some gigs and watch the British and Irish Lions play Australia is an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity,” the band said in a statement when announcing the tour.
They now travel to Sydney for a show at the Hordern Pavilion on July 5th. The third test is due to take place in the city a day later, and will be a winner-takes-all decider after Australia squared the three-games series 1-1 by securing a narrow one point victory over the Lions today.
