Tom Odell, Laura Mvula and AlunaGeorge are on the shortlist for the 2013 Brits Critics’ Choice Award.

The prize is a relatively recent addition to the Brit Awards’ categories, and the winner will be announced ahead of the main ceremony on December 20th.

Tom Odell has released a string of impressive singles during the course of this year, and has spoken of his delight at the possibility of joining some of the award’s successful past winners.

“I’m thrilled to be nominated and I feel privileged to be in the same company as previous nominees of the caliber of Adele, Emeli Sande, Michael Kiwanuka and Florence,” he has remarked.

Odell’s fellow nominees have also commented on their inclusion, with Laura Mvula remarking: “It’s unbelievable and I’m in total shock. I don’t think I’ve experienced this kind of shock before,” Mvula said of her mention,” while AlunaGeorge has said:

“We both feel incredibly honoured to be shortlisted for this award. Completely blown away, it’s a great feeling to have our music recognised in such a big way. 2013 is going to be an incredible year for UK music.”
