Tours cancelled as Hurricane Sandy hits US east coast

With the impeding threat of Hurricane Sandy putting New York and much of the rest of the US’ east coast into lock-down, a succession of gigs have been cancelled for the coming week.

The xx, Grimes and Cat Power have all had NYC shows pulled today (October 29th), while gigs for The xx in Philadelphia and Baltimore will also not take place as scheduled.

Meanwhile, when confirming her concert at the Music Hall of Williamsburg had been postponed, Grimes wrote on Twitter: “I am fully appreciating the seriousness of this situation, but its kind of exciting to be stuck in a hurricane.”

Cat Power’s affected show at the Electric Factory has swiftly been rescheduled for January 30th next year, while the Freedom to Love Now! fundraiser which was set to take in performances from the likes of The National and Rufus Wainwright is another casualty.

More than 375,000 people have been evacuated from New York with Hurricane Sandy forecasted to hit the States within the next few days.
