The Killers: ‘It’s fine for Mitt Romney to like us’

The Killers have taken a slightly more pragmatic approach to the news that they have a keen fan in Mitt Romney when compared to the response of Rage Against The Machine after similar professions of love from Romney’s running mate Paul Ryan were made earlier this month.

After Republican Presidential candidate Romney called The Killers ‘one group I enjoy’ during an interview with Parade, Rolling Stone asked the band’s bassist Mark Stoermer to give his reaction, and were told ‘anyone is allowed to like’ the Las Vegas group.

“Anyone’s allowed to like us,” Stoermer said. “If it’s just about music, I guess it’s not a negative thing. He’s, I guess, a guy and he listens to music and happens to like us. That’s fine.”

The reaction is a touch more relaxed than that of Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello who, after receiving support from Paul Ryan, used the opportunity to pen an open letter to Rolling Stone which began with:

“Paul Ryan’s love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades. Charles Manson loved the Beatles but didn’t understand them. Governor Chris Christie loves Bruce Springsteen but doesn’t understand him. And Paul Ryan is clueless about his favorite band, Rage Against the Machine.”
