Smashing Pumpkins mainman Billy Corgan has hit out at the current trend for high profile comebacks, saying the reunions are primarily motivated by money.
“There are those bands that are essentially coming back only to make money,” he told PhilStar.com. “Playing their old albums, and maybe somewhere in the back of their minds they’re thinking there might be a future. I am not in that business, obviously.”
Corgan went on to highlight Soundgarden as an example of his argument, declaring the band are chiefly out to have ‘one more round at the till’.
“When Soundgarden came back and they just played their old songs, great,” he continued. “I was a fan of Soundgarden, but call it for what it is. They’re just out there to have one more round at the till; same with Pavement and these other bands.”
While other bands walk the lucrative reunion trail, Corgan continues to press on with the Smashing Pumpkins, who finally released their long delayed ‘Oceania‘ album in June.
