Franz Ferdinand guitarist Nick McCarthy and the Scottish band’s touring musician Andy Knowles have launched a new side project entitled The Nice Nice Boys and teamed up with rising hip-hop act Marvellous Macc Mello for their debut single.

McCarthy met Knowles – who has also been a part of Johnny Marr‘s backing band The Healers – while the pair were at The Glasgow School of Art together in 2001 and have now joined forces for the new production team.

They have chosen their collaboration with Marvellous Macc Mello to officially present their project, which is streaming via YouTube below.

The track was recorded  at McCarthy’s own Sausage Studios and was later mixed at Abbey Road. It is described as ‘an unorthodox mixture of high-end indie pop and uncompromising UK hip hop’ and will be released through Meat Records.

The news comes as Franz Ferdinand themselves appear ready to release an album in the near future, after previewing a selection of new material during their 2012 live commitments.
