Morrissey couldn’t resist a little dig at last week’s London Olympics opening ceremony during his homecoming show at Manchester’s MEN Arena, reports The Telegraph.
Never one to shy away from an attack on the establishment – as his recent less than complementary thoughts on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee showed – Morrissey was quick to address his Manchester audience on the opening ceremony while performing at the Evening News arena, remarking: “You may have noticed I wasn’t invited to the Olympics Opening Ceremony. This was because my smile was thought to be too sincere.”
Meanwhile, and after dismissing rumours of an impending retirement which surfaced last month as ‘wishful thinking’ on the media’s behalf, Morrissey will embark on an expansive tour of North America later this year, beginning on October 5th at the Wang Theatre in Boston.
The 33-city tour will also include a stop off at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on November 24th with special guests Iggy and The Stooges, and will end in Atlantic City on December 8th
