The Courteeners will perform a one-off free gig in the centre of their home city Manchester this weekend, the band’s frontman Liam Fray has confirmed.

The band will play the 30-minute set on Saturday, June 23rd in Manchester’s Albert Square from 7pm, with Fray writing on Twitter: “We’re playing a free gig in Albert Square, Manchester at 7pm this Saturday. Don’t be late, set length is 30 minutes. See you there.”

The Courteeners are continuing work on the follow-up to their 2010 second album ‘Falcon‘. Last summer, Liam Fray gave XFM an early insight into how their new material was shaping up, describing the tracks as ‘bigger, heavier and better’ than previous efforts.

“We’re doing it at the minute so it’s there but as to when you’re going to hear it, probably early next year,” he explained at the time, before adding the recordings are, “going really well, really well – bigger, heavier, better.”
