The Beatles are biggest selling singles act of last 60 years

beatles1The Beatles have been confirmed as the biggest selling singles act in the UK of the past six decades according to new figures released to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The Fab Four’s 17 number one singles during their chart domination in the Sixties went a long way to securing the legendary band the top spot, with Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard in second and third place respectively.

A full countdown of the top 60 artists will be broadcast during a special BBC Radio 2 show today (June 4th) whose host Tony Blackburn has remarked:

“This chart offers a fascinating look at the past 60 years in music and shows the impact that modern stars like Rihanna and Katy Perry have had.”

“The list is really varied and will provide something for everyone. There are definitely a few surprises in store – Coldplay being at 60 for one!”
