A musical featuring some of The Beatles‘ most enduring hits is to launch in London later this year to mark the 50th anniversary of ‘Love Me Do‘ – the Fab Four’s 1962 debut single, reports Reuters.

The Let It Be musical will run at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London from September 14th 2012-January 19th 2013, and has been made possible after full theatrical rights to a large portion of The Beatles’ back catalogue were granted to a West End production for the first time. Songs apparently due to feature in the production include ‘Twist and Shout‘, ‘Yesterday‘ and ‘Hey Jude‘.

Originally released in the UK in October 1962, ‘Love Me Do’ made only a slight impression on the charts in their homeland. However, when issued in the States at the height of Beatlemania just under two years later, it reached number one.

Organisers have described the musical as a ‘theatrical concert’, and are planning to combine live performances with video archives.
