Sonisphere festival cancelled, claim headliners Queen

This year’s Sonisphere festival has apparently been cancelled amid reports of slow tickets sales.

One of the planned headliners, Queen, broke the news on their official website with a short message that reads: “It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.” The post has since been removed.

An official statement from Sonisphere is expected today (March 29th), with tickets now withdrawn from the event’s official site.

Original Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor were due to be joined by former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert at Knebworth for their only festival appearance of the summer, while Kiss and Faith No More were also set to top the weekend bill in July.

However, it seems the saturated UK festival season and constantly increasing ticket prices during tough economic times has claimed another casualty. John Probyn, Chief Operating Officer for Live Nation UK, summed it up neatly on Twitter, simply remarking: “Another one bites the dust…”
