Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder has admitted his notorious drug-taking past now makes him feel physically sick.

Ryder’s hell-raising antics with the Happy Mondays became almost as famous as the band itself during their heyday in the late Eighties and early Nineties, and is candidly documented in his recent autobiography Twisting My Melon.

And Ryder has told Mojo thinking back to the extent of his drug habit at its worse is something he doesn’t particularly relish. “Just thinking back, about the amount of crack I smoked, just makes me sick,” he said.

“Sick. I mean, literally, gagging. You know, when you get food caught in the back of your throat?”

The Happy Mondays will shortly kick off their reunion tour at the Newcastle Academy on May 3rd. The band are due to tour the UK for a large portion of that month, with a final show coming in Nottingham on May 18th. Support will be provided by The Inspiral Carpets.
