Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon debut new Blur song at London gig

blur2Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon handed a brand new Blur song its debut last night (February 19th) during a pre-Brit Awards fundraising gig.

The concert, held in support of the War Child charity, featured a short acoustic set from the Blur pair ahead of their appearance at tomorrow night’s Brit Awards, during which they unveiled the new track ‘Under The Westway‘ at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London.

In telling the crowd the song had been ‘written up the road from here a few weeks ago’, Damon Albarn also joked that ‘it’s got a lot of words – for me anyway – but not as many as Ed Sheeran has’.

As well as the new track, Albarn and Coxon also aired the 1995 ‘Great Escape‘ album track ‘He Thought Of Cars‘, and ‘Strange News From Another Star‘, taken from their 1997 self-titled record.

On Tuesday evening, along with Alex James and Dave Rowntree, Albarn and Coxon will be handed the Brits’ Outstanding Contribution gong at the O2 Arena ceremony, and will then perform live for the first time since their series of comeback tour dates in 2009.
