Mumford & Sons have said their second album will be a more darker affair than smash hit debut ‘Sigh No More‘, and have compared the new tracks to Black Sabbath.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, bass player Ted Dwane said their new album will be a more ‘mature’ sounding record, and will display a sound which he has labelled as ‘doom folk’

“The second record is just a reflection of our mindsets, where we’re all at,” Dwane said. “It’s doom folk, kind of like Black Sabbath meets Nick Drake.”

“It’s been really affirming because we started out with very humble aspirations,” he continued on the success of ‘Sigh No More’. We never thought we’d be commercially viable and we were proved wrong.”

Released in 2009, ‘Sigh No More’ peaked at #2 on the UK Album Chart in February 2011 after being named Best British Album at that month’s Brit Awards. It was also shortlisted for the 2010 Mercury Music Prize, losing out to The xx.
